What a Whistler winter is all
about
Stepping into a Whistler winter is like stepping into a picture
perfect winter land of snow capped British Columbia Coastal
Mountains and snow frosted forests surrounding a quaint village
at the foot of the mountains. With the ensuing and highly anticipated
2010 Olympics being awarded to Vancouver which will also take

will go one without a hitch.
Ramping up to the 2010 winter Olympics, the area
has already started developing the infrastructure to handle
the anticipated huge influx of people and vehicles that may
get stuck on the roads and highways as the sometimes brutal
Whistler winter sweeps through. To make sure anything like that
is prevented the sea-to-sky highway has been widened to four
lanes and straightened as much as possible allowing for high
volume flow through of vehicles and equipment commuting to Whistler.

Even before the announcement of the 2010 winter Olympics the
region was booming with activity and excitement as more and
more famous people brought attention to the area by visiting
to enjoy everything a Whistler winter has to offer. Consistently

Whistler in the Winter

places to bundle up and strap on the snow shoes to hit the trails.
It’s a perfect aerobic activity as its low impact, outdoors
and a physically challenging as you choose, just do not forget
your camera as the scenery of a Whistler winter will take your
breath away. If the slower pace of snow shoeing is not your
forte then how about downhill tubing but still want to be outdoors
doing a physically challenging sport? How about the ever popular
cross country skiing. With over 100km (60 miles) of trails winding
through the area offering many different views and perspectives
of a Whistler winter, you will not be disappointed just do not
forget your camera! A great addition to enhance the outdoor
activities that are a part of Whistler winter is the family
tube park. It’s a long downhill tubing hill with the added
bonus of a people mover type escalator to take you back to the
top of the run effortlessly. Its great fun for a couple people
to a whole family as it’s safe, outdoors and you don’t
have to pack the tube back up the run!
World class skiing and snowboarding are all

Playing host to the 2005 World downhill snowboarding championships
really proved the region is a world class Whistler winter destination
that will be the perfect place for the 2010 winter Olympics.
With the recent boom in snowboarding popularity and “coolness”
only adds to the barrage of skiers that enjoy the Whistler winter
each year. There are now two snowboarding pipes on the hills
along with a snowboarding park that also help draw new crowds
and people to the area to entice them into partaking everything
a Whistler winter offers. With over 200 runs and 17 speedy lifts,
North America’s largest ski destination makes getting
up the mountain just as enjoyable as getting down the mountain
indeterminate of you being a snowboarder or skier. Strap on
